The Mill has gone!

On Sat 19th July, 2008, late in the evening, local resedents at Woodend woke to what could only be described as an earthquake! NO......

Part of the south side of Carrhill Mill, Woodends close neighbour collapsed. The Mill has been derelict for over 10 years but has been used for storage, and apparently was overloaded at that side.

Victoria Ashworth

Victoria Ashworth has had a studio at Woodend Mill for approximately 18 months after graduating with a degree in Fine Art. Since graduating Victoria has had a number of exhibitions including ‘Fallen Utopia’ at Nexus Art Café, Manchester and Ripplesix, Marsden. She has work on display at The Colin Jellicoe Gallery in central Manchester and will soon be exhibiting at Mooch Gallery in the Northern Quarter. During the last 12 months she has had a number of teaching projects at schools throughout Tameside. These successful projects have resulted in private exhibitions and group displays.

Having entered The Artist of the Year competition at Mooch Gallery, Manchester, Victoria’s prize as runner up is a joint exhibition with other finalists opening on Thursday 27th November 2008.

The next few months are going to be particularly exciting as work will be on show in numerous locations as well as curating the Winter Event at Woodend Mill. A number of commissions are also underway and this upcoming weekend she will take part in The 2nd Art Market at Holmfirth.

A collaborative exhibition

with a fellow artist is

something Victoria is

looking forward to in

2009, as well as

developing her own work

and pushing ideas further.

Artist, working with paint mediums

Carrhill Mill was built in 1820 by Nathaniel Buckley and was known as the 'French Mill' because it was owned by 'Dupont' and became Mossley Wool ltd. Coincendently, Carrhill Mill collapsed in the same place on Christmas Day, 1900. Woodend Mill and Britania Mill are now the only surviving mills remaining in Mossley from over 45 mills.
